Nowhere To Hide (Close My Exes)

Written by Bryan Josh, additional words by Heather Findlay

-Chorus-
Don't want to close my eyes.
I don't want them open
And there's nowhere, nowhere to hide in my head.
Time is a lonely place, time is a lonely face.

Seconds are stretching now,
Seconds are stretching into years.
Stare at the fireplace,
Look at the burning in the walls.
Stare at the fireplace,
Look at the burning.

- Chorus -
I don't want to ……

Home is inside somewhere.
Fading like sunset sky
Somebody take me home,
somebody take my hand,
Stare at the fireplace
Look at the burning in the walls.
Stare at the fireplace.
Look at the burning

- Chorus -
I don't want to……

Heroes Never Die

Written by Bryan Josh, additional words by Duncan Rayson)

The ways, the ins and outs of haven still elude us to the end
The tears, the sun the rain, I feel them on my face against my skin
We love you then, we love you still
And don't you know, don't you know that heroes never die,
They sail forever

Slow the rain falls, the memories blowing through
I stand with arms outstretched to catch the warmth of you
Eyes to the heavens, screaming at the skies,
Trying to send you messages, still choking on goodbyes
And I wonder why.

Gold November, yellow brown and green
I try to picture you somewhere in between
Cold the night falls, shadows drawing in,
The glimpse I had of you is torn in the wind
And I wonder why, tracing paths, we search the stormy sky.
The ways, the ins and outs of heaven still elude us to the end.
The tears, the sun the rain, I feel them on my face against my skin.
We loved you then, we love you still and don't you know, don't you know
That heroes never die, they sail forever.

Close my eyes now, and focus on the light.
You are more beautiful and never out of sight,
And tears that fall are blood from the heart, from the moment we part.
May I offer those tears for the love of the years
For the love

The ways the ins and outs of heaven still elude us to the end
The tears, the sun and rain, I feel them on my face and on my skin
We loved you then, we love you still and don't you know, don't you know
The ways the ins and outs of heaven still elude us to the end
If he's the sun the rain, I feel him on my face against my skin,
And when I open up that door and think of where we used to roam
And laugh and smile and drink with friends with all the love you know we have.
Don't you know, that heroes never die, they sail forever.

THE SPIRIT OF AUTUMN PAST.

...Winter Mountain

Written by Bryan Josh, middle section words: The late R. Josh

Welcome, Winter Mountain
Standing in the silent purple sky.
Welcome winter mountain
And I know it's where I want to be.

Welcome, winter Mountain
High against the silent crystal sky.
Welcome winter mountain
And I know it's where I want to be.

Dawn cracks the vault of night
Dimming the stars so cold, so bright
Head throbbing from the 'Clachaig' ale last night.
No sound, no wind
Just light purple sky.
Shadows shorten before my eyes
As I gaze at the mountain near at hand.

Welcome, Winter Mountain
Standing in the silent purple sky.
Welcome winter mountain
And I know it's where I want to be.

I'm coming home...

The Spirit Of Autumn Past (Part II)

Written by Bryan Josh and Iain Jennings, additional words by Heather Findlay

At the ticking of the sun
On the green bellied mountains,
I'm staring high in the sky.
In the breeze I can taste
The fragrance of his moment
And I take a deep breath.
Then the breeze picks up his bags
And blows on over my shoulder
That's life, this life.

- Chorus -

We're running out of time,
But the time is still behind us
And tomorrow cuts the dawn that's the law.
And the spirit of the past
Still lingers in surroundings.
I'm the owner of my mind and I know
The spirit of Autumn Past.

Yesterday the sun shone on the party
And everybody shone at the sun.
But now I'm alone and the sky turns grey
There's a ghost across the wind.

- Chorus -

You and me and all of us,
From the dying stars to the dreams of children,
We're all together now.

- Chorus -

We're running out of time,
But the time is still behind us
And tomorrow cuts the dawn that's the law.
And the spirit of the past
Will echo through your hallways
And the walls you leave behind,
Will breath your life.
The Spirit of autumn past.

The Gap Is Too Wide

Written by Iain Jennings

Are you immune to this?
You make the picture fit.
It cannot heal you inside,
The Gap is too wide,
I know.

Soon it'll be too late
To feed on your embrace.
They cannot ever know
We let our feelings show.
It hurts.

Unfurl your flag with me.
The dreams is so complete.
It cannot heal you inside,
The gap is to wide,
I know.

This song is dedicated to the life of Susan Jennings who is a complete inspiration. She was a very special person who brought out the best in everyone she meet - Iain Jennings

LIVE IN... VERVIERS.

(15 June 2002 ;-)

Comfortably Numb.

Written by David Gilmour

Hello,
Is there anybody in there
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone at home
Come on now
I hear you feeling down
I can ease your pain
And get your on your feet again
Relax
I'll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts

There is no pain you're receding
Distance sky, smoke on the horizon
You're only comming thru in waves
You're lips move but i can't hear what you're saying
When i was a child a had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now i've got that feeling once agian
I can't explain, you would not understand
This is not how i am
I've become comfortably numb

O.K.
Just a little pinprick
There will no more aaaah!
But you may feel a little sick
Can you stand up?
I do, i believe it's working good
That will keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go

There's no pain you're receding
A distance ship, smoke on the horizon
You're only come through in waves
You're lips move but i can't hear what yo're saying
When i was a child
I caught the fleeting glimps
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I can't put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
And i've become
comfortably numb.

Faith & Betrayal.

Written by Marc Atkinson from Gabriel.

There are those that love you
and those that you leave behind yo
there are pieces in your life
that slowly fade away
there are moments in time
captured in the rhyme of living
some are heaven sent
and some get witten in stone

We all live our lives
learning to sacrifice
cause we're aal living a life
of faith and betrayal

There are those that you want
and those that you keep inside you
there are those who will take
and never give away
there'll be lies and deceit and maybe jealousy
all wrapped up in abundle of love for you

And what more can we do
it's the same for me or you
we're trying to learn the truth
of faith and betrayal.

THE LAST BRIGHT LIGHT.

Hollow

Written by Iain Jennings

I remember who you are
If you take me back I'll follow
Your eyes are bright in a tunnel of dark
You look different, have you changed your ways?
You'll still be here tomorrow
That keeps you fighting for today

You walk with a dream in your bag
That you've carried through all
The good times and bad
You've followed the road
To the top of the world.
Too long.

Deepest senses, patient time
Don't waste your final chances
You cannot hold on to the fire

It makes no difference
How it ends
The days have left you hollow
Too fast around the bend

The Last Bright Light

Written by Bryan Josh

For The 'ghost' of a man I saw laid in his filth outside a high class restaurant in the West End.
(Bryan Josh)

I'm grieving for the dreams you could have had
Mist in the rain, snow on the rising tide.
Over and over they disappear

I'm grieving for the love we should have had
The feeling was there, I just couldn't say the words
Holding you tight as we said goodbye

The last bright light...

I'd rather put life in your heart
Then money in your hand
I'd rather put dreams where they could fly
Then let them disappear
In the emptiness
A cold heart dies
I hope that you know that I love you.

The bright sun is swelling out of control
Nature is losing a child of her own
Burning her hands she's holding the fort
To the last
The blue pearl is swallowed, snow on the rising tide
Thoughts will scatter like ancient remains
Beyond the night sky.

The last bright light...

I'd rather put life in your heart
I'd rather put dreams where they can fly
The terrible truth, the tears and the filth
The ghost of a winter so dim in your eyes
Standing alone, the sun in the night
Burning the autumn, the world on its knees
I hope that you know that I love you
I hope that you know that we love you.
Away in the emptiness a cold star dies

Never The Rainbow

Written by Iain Jennings & Heather Findlay

Cross the ocean deep
Wake now from your sleep
Kiss the past goodbye
Don't follow empty skies

Never the Rainbow
Striking silver when you're burning for gold
In the soul destruction, your spirit hangs on.
But you keep believing
That it won't be too long.

See the mess we weave
In the battered daze of belief
Screaming with no sound
The whole thing is coming down

Shrinking Violet

Written by Heather Findlay, End Section by Heather Findlay and Bryan Josh

Safe until the darkness falls
To loneliness a demon calls
Creeping in, arousing my fears
To breathe a language
That noone else hears

Can I cope along tonight
The shrinking violet I've become inside?
To you I may seen insecure
But did you know me what I was before?

I remember dancing as a child
A careless confidence danced with me
Whatever happened to the sun?
Only seemed to notice when it had gone.

Lead me back to where it seems
I danced alone in sunlit dreams
Unafraid to play with fire
With a view through a child's eyes
Naive and wild.
Can I...
I remember...

If I ever meet again with her
Could I tell her I could live with her?
If I ever meet again with her
I will tell her I could live with her.

I will cope alone tonight
I'll fight these demons that I've tried to describe
I won't be so insecure
I will show you what I was before

I will dance then as a child
A careless confidence will dance with me
I'll be warmed there by the sun
You would notice when I had gone.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS.

Greenwood The Great (Shadowy Glades)

Under eastern silver skies
Where the bright moon wore the heart
In a land of bright bird song

Where the springtime charmed the day
And the glad folk sang, to the sun
Melodies in golden glades

Through the narrows
Catch the starlight
In a land so fair
Greenwood blows there

Then the rising misty fair
Where the sun refused to shine
And the arms of darkness grew

Through the narrows
Kills the starlight
In a land so fair
Blood burns cold there

Goodbye Alone

Written By Bryan Josh

As the half light of the evening
Embers on the hill
The warmth of my home
The warmth of my home

And pictures
And feeling
And sounds of the past

Too old to run
Too young to die
Too sad to smile
Tears in your eyes
Nowhere to hide
But here alone

On The Wings Of Gwaihir

Lothlorien

Music By Bryan Josh, Words By Heather Findlay and Bryan Josh

Golden hue, no cloud but for smoky whisper in the sky
Endless streams of yellow sun warm
Starry flowers, the grass is jeweled

As the wind blows through my heart
Through the trees of heavens stars
And the elder days still echo
In this timeless land

Beyond myself and full of weary, slumber my head is down
Other worldly sense and beauty
Lull my sheltered dreams this night
As ageless magic, elven music, pour upon my sleepy brow
So far away yet so close to homely
Feelings fill me up somehow

As the wind blows

The Return Of The King

Written By Bryan Josh

Hey, men of war
Raise your silver shields
And catch the starlight here

Hail, the king returns
The promise is fulfilled
The blood of Numenor

Hail, Elendil’s sword
Piercing light of old
To smash the darkest tower

Come, blackened skies
Steady our hearts
We ride into the night

Hey, men of steel
Put fire in your eyes
To burn the darkest hour

Hey, men of old
The point of no return
The flood gates open wide

Hey, the king returns...

Helm's Deep

I Believe in Father Christmas

Greg Lake/ Peter Sinfield

They said there'll be snow at Christmas,
They said there'll be peace on earth,
But instead it just kept on raining,
A veil of tears for the Virgin birth.

I remember one Christmas morning,
The Winter's light and a distant choir,
And the peal of a bell and that Christmas tree smell,
And eyes full of tinsel and fire.

They sold me a dream of Christmas,
They sold me a silent night,
They told me a fairy story,
'Til I believed in the Israelite.

And I believed in Father Christmas,
And I looked to the sky with excited eyes,
Then I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn,
And I saw him and through his disguise.

I wish you a hopeful Christmas,
I wish you a brave New Year,
All anguish, pain and sadness,
Leave your heart and let your road be clear.

They said there'd be snow at Christmas,
They said there'd be peace on earth,
Hallelujah! Noel!, be it Heaven or Hell,
The Christmas we get, we deserve.

"As the popularity of the band has grown, newcomers often approach us asking us to define Mostly Autumn, or to point them to one CD that best captures the spirit of the band. With six years growth and a catalogue of five albums it'ss never an easy task to pick one release which describes the whole of what we are - and have been.

Coupled with this situation, there are versions of songs on previous CD's that I felt could be improved upon. The emotion and sincerity has always been there on all the material we have ever recorded, but the very tight time pressures we have usually operated under, has restricted our ability to explore the potential of much of that material to its fullest.

For me this album marks the end of the first chapter in the evolution of the band. I was never happy with the idea of an ordinary compilation and felt strongly that we should we create a new set of recordings for this anthology. We hope that this record will give a whole new generation of listeners, promoters and DJ's a starting point.

What you now hold is a good reflection of the varying colours and textures of Mostly Autumn. It's a calling card if you like. Of course if you are already familiar with our music, it'ss also a chance for to hear the songs revisited from a slightly different angle.

I am personally blown away by this CD and I hope you are too. I am constantly overawed by the support and encouragement of people like you from all around the world who have brought us this far, I hope you continue with us for the next chapter.

See you on the road soon." Bryan Josh
